Approved Kite Links

These pages are where we will list kite links for sites that we feel best portray the sport of kite flying through their exceptional behavior and ongoing promotion of the sport.  You might find anything here that we deem "exceptional".  You might see a link from an informational page, a manufacturer or how to sites.  We will be very choosey about what goes on this page so that it doesn't waste our time or yours.

We feel that our first link should go to John Barresi who is owner, operator, publisher and editor of Kitelife magazine.  John is a true example of not only an enthusiast of kite flying but someone who has bettered the kiting community with his publication.  You can click the link below that will take you to Kitelife Magazine which is filled with fascinating article and pictures.  Thank you John for your hard work!

You might wonder why our second choice for a link would go to an organization that we have already devoted a specific section to on our website, but we strongly believe in the AKA and what it has done for the kiting community.  Not only do they put out a killer magazine but they have brought kite people together from all walks of life and with a variety of kiting interests that is unsurpassed.  They have members who have interests from dual line kites, competitions, buggying, building kites, quad line kiting etc.  They have a proven groundwork of over 40 years in educating the public and promoting anything kite related from history of kiting, fests, art, and technology to name just a few.  They are all about advancing kiting in any way possible.  If you are not an AKA member now, click on the AKA logo which will take you to the AKA site and check them out and see what they are about.  How often do you have an opportunity to be part of an organization that has helped promote the joy of kiting like the AKA has?  For more information about the AKA please see the link to the left of this page.  It even has a nifty picture of the current issue of the Kiting magazine that you get when you join the AKA.

Our 3rd recommended link isn't kite related at all even, but flying RC planes and helicopters is not that far off from flying a kite.  One uses arm and wind power and the other uses battery and fuel power.  The end results are all the same with the same objective, flying and having fun.
Some might think that tricking a kite is so much harder than flying RC planes and helicopters.  Guess again, you're still working with skill, hand eye coordination, easy hand movements and patience.

It's another thing that could turn into a life long hobby, instead of waiting for the wind to come up, now you could have fun while you wait.
The LCRC site has some killer photos and videos to watch.  They even have crash and burn awards like some kite fliers do, so the similarities are more than the dissimilarities are between the two hobbies.

So if you're traveling through Lorain County, Ohio stop and pay the club a visit.  Since they have the same love and passion for their hobby as we kite fliers do, I bet they'd just love to show you a 101 on RC flying.  Who knows, maybe you can teach them a trick or two also. ;-)
